More than 120 children from across Grenada were welcomed to Port Louis Marina this summer as part of the island's Annual Public Library Summer Programme, giving young people a unique opportunity to discover the diverse careers and industries that exist within one of the Caribbean's leading marina destinations.
Organised in collaboration with Fidel, the marina's Art & Culture shop, the educational visits formed part of a wider island-wide programme designed to introduce children to different workplaces, industries and future career opportunities.
Throughout the week, groups from the parishes of St. John’s, St. David’s and St. Patrick explored the marina, accompanied by parents, guardians and programme leaders.
Hosted by members of the Port Louis Marina team, the tours introduced the children to the day-to-day operations of a modern international marina. They learned how the marina functions, explored the waterfront village, visited the berths and docks, discovered how marina service pedestals provide essential utilities to visiting yachts, and gained an insight into the marina’s fuel facilities and guest amenities.
The experience extended beyond marina operations, with local businesses also opening their doors. The children enjoyed an introduction to hospitality, where they were shown professional bartending techniques and learned more about careers within Grenada’s thriving tourism sector.
The initiative was designed to broaden young people’s understanding of the many professions that support the maritime, tourism and hospitality industries, encouraging them to consider future career pathways they may not otherwise have encountered.
